New World Removes PvP Character Limit and Introduces Balance Changes

New World is making significant changes with its latest update, including the removal of the one-PvP-character-per-server limit, as well as various fixes, balance adjustments, and global price localization.

When Amazon transitioned New World to a seasonal model with the Fellowship & Fire update, they initially imposed a restriction requiring players to choose just one “PvP active” character per server. However, with the new update, this restriction is being lifted, and the downtime for the update is scheduled to start tonight at 11 pm PDT.

Originally, this restriction was implemented as part of several security measures to combat exploits and shell companies. The developers have stated, “Our changes to Influence and other protections like Shell Company Mitigation largely reduce the impact of Alt Characters on Territory Control. If exploits appear, we will bring back the restriction.” For now, it is no longer in effect.

In addition to removing the character limit, the update brings several balance tweaks and performance improvements. Bandwidth allocation in large groups will be improved, which should be beneficial given the increased population since the expansion. The update also addresses various issues, such as shortening some mount races, fixing an exploit involving bosses in the Elysian Wilds, and ensuring that certain artifacts drop again if players were disconnected before picking them up.

Several weapons and perks are receiving stat adjustments, and certain Heartrunes will be boosted. Dark Ascent, Fire Storm, and Devourer will have increased damage.

The update is timely for Halloween, as it coincides with the Nightveil Hallow event running through November 14th. It also resolves issues that were preventing some players from completing the event.

One notable change in this patch pertains to pricing adjustments worldwide. Amazon Game Studios states, “In response to fluctuations in currency exchange rates around the world, we updated our localized price points for in-game purchases outside of the United States to align with our retail product prices on Steam.” International players can expect to see pricing updates once the update goes live.
